What flowers grow well in georgia red clay?

I want to start a garden but the soil is really hard. It’s georgia red clay. I do buy the soil from places like home depot but it gets blown away or something. Eventually, it will disapear. So i’ll like wasteing my money. What are some really pretty flowers I should plant. And I bought some dinner plate dahlias. Do they grow well in georgia red clay?

Amending your soil is the best way to go. Adding compost, and maybe sand to loosen the ground and other amending ingredients will make the soil amenable to just about any flower that you like because it aerates and allows roots to grow for strong plants.

Go to your local nursery and see what plants you like, then ask if they grow well in your type of soil. They live there so they should know what grows best. Another source is a home extension group in your area.

My Mom grew huge dahlias but our soil was great–my Dad used a lot of manure and compost material first and really worked it into the soil. Good luck
